Travis Kelce showed in the playoffs that he still very much has it, and while this has not completely dispelled the notion that he might be declining, that could be of advantage in NFL fantasy. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end was 2023’s TE3, and combine that with the suggestions age is catching up with him (34) and that people think he is a little less invested in football than he used to be, Kelce will likely slide out of the first round in fantasy drafts.
Fantasy pros have Kelce’s average draft position at No. 33, and he would be a steal if he falls to the third round. While many who took him in the first last year were disappointed with his output, getting similar numbers from the third round would be a huge bargain. Realistically, taking Travis Kelce in the second would still be a good move, as he has unignorable upside.
Travis Kelce’s 2024 NFL fantasy outlook: What numbers to expect from the Chiefs TE?
Travis Kelce could be on the decline, but the Chiefs certainly don’t seem to think so, as they handed him a $34.25 million contract extension through 2027. 2023 saw Kelce’s worst statistical season since 2015, but the numbers were still decent for the position. The tight end missed the first and last games of the season, recording 93 receptions, 984 yards and 5 TDs, good for 219.4 fantasy points (ppr leagues).
Given that Kelce very rarely misses games (5 since becoming a starter in the 2014 season) and is so important to the Chiefs, he is a very sound investment. If he can stay healthy, expect to see Travis Kelce break the 1,000-yard barrier again, and score at least 8 TDs.
