Terry McLaurin is one of the most talented receivers in the NFL but the Washington Commanders don’t seem to get the best out of him. McLaurin hasn’t missed a game in three seasons, but due to some inconsistent issues in a frequently changing QB room, he doesn’t quite do enough to warrant being targeted in fantasy as anything other than a WR2/streamer.
Over the past three campaigns, the Commanders have seen Alex Smith, Taylor Heinicke, Kyle Allen, Dwayne Haskins, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Garrett Gilbert, Carson Wentz, Jacoby Brissett and Sam Howell all play under center. 2024 will see more change, as Jayden Daniels and Marcus Mariota are set to lead the offense.
Given Terry McLaurin’s solid stats throughout his career, he could be a decent bench stash if Washington gets going offensively, or a streaming option if they don’t. Fantasy Pros have McLaurin as the WR35 and 71st pick in standard league fantasy drafts in 2024. McLaurin could be valuable as a late fifth/sixth-round pick, as he will, at the very least, put up solid numbers if he stays healthy.
Terry McLaurin’s 2024 NFL fantasy outlook: What numbers to expect from the Commanders WR?
It may seem harsh to have Terry McLaurin as the WR35, but the stats back this up. In 2023, McLaurin was between the WR31-33, depending on league format. With either a rookie QB or Mariota throwing the ball, there is cause for concern for Commanders receivers.
Last campaign, McLaurin put up 1,002 yards, the fourth season in a row he broke the 1,000-yard barrier, along with 4 touchdowns, the joint-lowest TD return of his career. With McLaurin never having reached 8 TDs in a season, it is difficult to predict that will happen in 2024. Another 1,000-yard campaign seems likely, with between 4-6 TDs on top.
