Patrick Mahomes didn’t have exactly the fantasy year many people were hoping for, and this was largely down to the Kansas City Chiefs’ receiving corps underperforming. Mahomes is coming off his third Super Bowl win and with the Chiefs reshaping the receiver room, this could be a big fantasy season for those looking to draft the signal caller.
Fantasy Pros have Patrick Mahomes as the consensus No. 3 QB for the season, and depending on your league rules, between the 35th and 39th pick in fantasy drafts. There will obviously be outliers, with some aiming to take Mahomes early due to name recognition, but if you can get him in the third round that would represent great value. A second-round selection feels like a reach, unless it is at the tail end of the round as he could be in for a very good 2024.
Patrick Mahomes’ 2024 NFL fantasy outlook: What numbers to expect from the Chiefs QB?
While Patrick Mahomes was a source of some concern for his fantasy managers in 2023, that was largely due to a spree of dropped passes from Kadarius Toney and Marquez Valdes-Scantling, alongside some subpar performances from Skyy Moore and Richie James. With Travis Kelce not his usual dominant self for much of the campaign, Mahomes’ numbers suffered accordingly.
In 2023, Mahomes threw for 4,183 yards, 27 TDs and 14 TDs, good for 294.2 points and the QB8 in standard leagues. After drafting a WR with Tyreek Hill speed in Xavier Worthy and landing Marquise Brown, the Chiefs offense might be in a much better place in 2024.
Given some of the 5,000-yard and 45+ TD seasons Patrick Mahomes has displayed in the past, an improvement in 2024 is to be expected. A baseline of 4,600 yards passing and 35 TDs seems appropriate and while these are high numbers, it’s very realistic.
