After landing with the Atlanta Falcons, Kirk Cousins could play a huge role in determining not just the NFC South 2024, but the NFC conference as a whole. While the Falcons left many scratching their heads by not improving their starting lineup in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft, the franchise is poised for a big campaign with the hype building around multiple offensive players.
While Bijan Robinson, Kyle Pitts and Drake London are expected to be the chief beneficiaries of Cousins’ signing with Atlanta, the QB will be looking to exorcise some ghosts of his own. At 35 years old, with only one playoff win in his career and coming off a torn Achilles, time is running out for Cousins to build a postseason repertoire to one day look back on.
In fantasy terms, Kirk Cousins has often been viewed as a streamer, but he put together some decent performances with the Minnesota Vikings and was a dependable arm for managers in need. His average draft position in 2024 fantasy drafts is No. 113 as the QB19 (via Fantasy Pros), which displays the risk of his injury and age, along with a new team.
With those risks in mind, Cousins is better taken in later rounds as your backup QB, to be used in emergencies, against poor defenses, or if the Falcons do live up to their preseason hype.
Kirk Cousins’ 2024 NFL fantasy outlook: What numbers to expect from the Falcons QB?
In 2023, before his season was cut short due to a ruptured Achilles, Kirk Cousins was putting up some decent points. Overall, he finished with 2,331 yards, 18 TDs and 5 INTs across 8 games, worth 154.7 fantasy points in standard leagues. Cousins averaged 19.3 points per game last campaign, which ranked seventh among QBs.
Cousins 2024 numbers are difficult to predict, as it would be reasonable to expect a QB his age coming off a significant injury to see some decline. That said, Cousins has in many ways improved with age, and if the Falcons can give him better protection than the Vikings did, he could be in for a very good campaign.
Cousins regularly approaches/breaks 4,200 yards and 30 TDs, so presuming he plays 17 games, it would be reasonable to expect him to at least get close to those in 2024. The Falcons could be one of the most exciting teams in the NFC this season, and while we have heard that several times since the infamous Super Bowl collapse, they could be for real this time.
