Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku has stood out for many who stream the position, to the point that he is arguably a must-start in 2024. Nkoku was the TE6 in 2023 (both PPR & HPPR leagues), and with T.J. Hockenson expected to be out for a great stretch of the upcoming campaign, Njoku’s stock has risen.
Given that the tight end position can be a tough area to squeeze points from, the difference between David Njoku and the next few tight ends might not seem a lot. However, in 2023 he finished with 19.7 more fantasy points than TE7 (Trey McBride) in PPR leagues, and 16.1 more in HPPR leagues than TE7 (Cole Kmet).
David Njoku has a consensus average draft position of 92, via Fantasy Pros, and is ranked as the TE9. This feels a little tough on the Browns TE, and it suggests you can get him as good value in the seventh or eighth round, depending on the size of your league. If you are going for Njoku you can wait, and confidently draft the core of your team first.
David Njoku’s 2024 NFL fantasy outlook: What numbers to expect from the Browns TE?
In 2023, David Njoku had his best NFL season since entering the league in 2017, recording 882 yards and 6 TDs from 81 receptions. Njoku has seen his target volume increase from 53 in 2021 to 80 in 2022 and then to 123 in 2023. Volume is key for tight ends, and if Njoku can at least see the same target share he is in for a good season.
The main question for Njoku comes from the QB position in Cleveland, as he and Amari Cooper were a major part of Joe Flacco’s comeback tour, and as to whether Deshaun Watson will look to him is a concern. With Nick Chubb’s injury return another puzzle and the franchise’s running game yet another (although the addition of D’Onta Foreman looks a great fit), Njoku should be a major part of this offense.
On the plus side, Njoku only missed one game last season, and barring a broken wrist in 2019, has avoided serious issues throughout his career. Presuming he stays healthy in 2024, similar numbers are a solid guess. Prepare for a slight decline without Flacco, but 75 catches for 800 yards and 6 TDs feels like a good estimate.
