Can Jameson Williams do it again in Week 2? Q status & fantasy outlook explored for Lions WR

Jameson Williams had a Week 1 to remember, and the Detroit Lions’ speedy receiver finished the game with five catches for 121 yards and a touchdown. Williams recorded 21.90 fantasy points and was the WR5 in Week 1 across HPPR leagues.

Williams has struggled with injuries throughout his NFL career and could be on the verge of a breakout season. However, the Lions WR is questionable for Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Jameson Williams was limited in practice every day this week due to an ankle concern, which doesn’t appear to be too serious. Other than that there is very little information around, apart from some speculation as to the play where he picked up the issue. Rotoballer thinks Williams is more likely to play than not, but managers will have to wait for further updates to be certain.

Update: As per Pro Football Talk on Sunday, Williams is expected to play.

If Williams is cleared to play, he looks like a very good flex option at the very least. Can he repeat his Week 1 numbers against Tampa Bay? Yes, he absolutely could, however, a slight decrease seems likely.

Week 2 bounce-back candidates:  Drake LondonEvan EngramMarvin Harrison Jr. and Javonte Williams.

What numbers to expect from Jameson Williams in Week 2?

Jameson Williams may not have seen as much of the field as he would have liked since entering the league in 2022 (19 games, 11 starts). However, when he plays, Williams certainly makes an impact and has 4 career TDs to his name.

Due to his speed and route running, when Williams finds himself targeted downfield there is often a conspicuous lack of a defender. In 2022 he only had one reception and it went for a 41-yard TD.

Williams is elusive and agile, runs a 40-second dash in 4.25 seconds (as per NFL Draft Buzz) and is already in possession of several highlight-reel plays. We want to temper the hype a little bit, but he really can turn innocuous plays into huge touchdowns.

Jameson Williams is projected 9.69 points in Week 2 across HPPR leagues (via fantasy.nfl.com). While his target numbers suggest he has a scary floor and needs a TD to reach acceptable numbers, he demonstrated last week how high his ceiling can be.

Williams has a very wide point range and could easily go for anything between 3-22. It is all a matter of trusting Jared Goff to find him downfield. Go with the hot hand here, especially in the flex spot (or as your WR2 in 14+ team leagues), and hope for a connection. After all, you don’t want to see a repeat of this on your bench:
