The Jacksonville Jaguars have not gotten off to the AFC South-winning start they were hoping for and Trevor Lawrence and company stand 0-3. Worse, they have not played well on either side of the ball, having scored 40 total points and conceding 85. Their offensive issues are causing headaches in fantasy football, so let’s take a look at their chances in Week 4.
Jacksonville travels to take on the Houston Texans, and if they cannot shake off their 47-10 defeat by Buffalo, it could be a long day. With the Texans not exactly firing on all cylinders themselves yet, this could be a competitive game. Houston hasn’t exactly had a stop sign on its doormat either, having conceded 74 points in three games. This could bode well for the Jaguars offense.
Jaguars QB Fantasy Outlook: Trevor Lawrence
Trevor Lawrence has thus far underwhelmed in 2024 and a lot of people are looking sideways at his $275 million extension. Lawrence has thrown for 560 yards, 2 TDs and 1 INT this season, accumulating 34.00 fantasy points and a QB16 ranking.
At this stage, Lawrence is a risky start and you should keep him on your bench unless you are ravaged by injuries and in a large league. This could be the week he finds his form, but you don’t want to hang your fantasy team on it.
Trevor Lawrence’s points range: 10-22; Prediction: 15.5
Jaguars RB Fantasy Outlooks: Travis Etienne Jr. & Tank Bigsby
Jaguars running backs have suffered somewhat in 2024, due to a combination of poor red zone efficiency (TDs on 36.36% red zone drives) and a bad game script in Week 3. Travis Etienne is the only Jacksonville RB you should consider starting, as Tank Bigbsy is coming back from an injury and the offense is not scoring enough to warrant starting their RB2.
Etienne has put up some solid points and has 164 rushing yards and TDs, as well as 9 receptions for 38 yards through the air. If there is one player you feel could have a huge game against Houston it’s Travis Etienne, but you should temper your expectations.
The Texans rushing defense is ranked No. 7 in the NFL, averaging 97.7 yards per game against. While this is a small sample size, it could be indicative.
Travis Etienne’s points range: 10-23; Prediction: 13
Jaguars WR Fantasy Outlooks: Christian Kirk, Gabe Davis (Q) & Brian Thomas Jr.
When it comes to receivers, the Jaguars are plugging in a lot of new players this year, with Gabe Davis coming over from Buffalo and Brian Thomas Jr. in the 2024 NFL draft.
Davis is a Q heading into the weekend, but even if he is cleared he should be avoided in fantasy. His numbers have not been enough to warrant starting him, and he is far more likely to put up 5 points than 10.
Thomas certainly looks an exciting prospect and you can see why Jacksonville took him with the 23rd pick in the draft. Thomas followed up double-digit scores in the opening two weeks of the season (TD on his debut) with a 48-yard display, however, he had 9 targets on the day. He represents a WR2/flex role in larger leagues and could become the franchise’s best receiver in fantasy football.
Christian Kirk was expected to have a big year but has thus far been disappointing. Kirk did have a TD taken off the board due to a flag, but recorded only 3.90 points (HPPR) in the first two weeks combined. He followed that up with an 11.90-point day but is still waiting for his first TD on the year.
Like Thomas, Kirk is currently a WR2/flex in fantasy, but he feels like a real bounce-back candidate and the likeliest receiving candidate for a TD this week.
Christian Kirk’s points range: 4-23; Prediction: 14
Brian Thomas Jr.’s points range: 7-15; Prediction: 10
Jaguars TE Fantasy Outlook: Brenton Strange
The tight end position is every part as unpredictable as ever in 2024. With Mark Andrews and Travis Kelce underperforming, and Evan Engram and Trey McBride out, Brenton Strange could be an option in Week 4.
Strange is a solid pick with Engram “unlikely to play,” and has seen back-to-back 8-point displays (HPPR). He is well worth starting if you are in a bind (presuming Engram doesn’t make Week 4).
Brenton Strange’s points range: 4-12; Prediction: 8.5
